Who Are You For?

13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” Joshua 5:13 (NIV)

14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Joshua 5:14a (NIV)

(Joshua is experiencing a Theophany: An appearance of Jesus before He was born in the manger.)

14 Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.  Joshua 5:14b-15 (NIV)

Joshua approaches this man asking whose side is he on.  When Joshua quickly realizes this is the Lord, Joshua submits to his Commander-In-Chief.  Joshua is second in command to God alone.  In this private moment Joshua bows to God.  He submits himself to the Lord when no one is watching.

If Christ is the leader in your family-your family is holy ground.  Your marriage, finances, everywhere you allow God to lead you-You are on holy ground and you better behave accordingly.  How is your perspective toward your position?

Before we become leaders OF authority, we must first become leaders UNDER authority.

Don’t worry about who is for you or against you-Decide with certainty who are YOU for?

Don’t worry about big platforms…worry about your platform:  the ones at home, and in your marriage.  Who are you for in these roles?

Jesus invites Joshua to be part of Jesus’ story.  You must shift your mindset that the story is not YOUR STORY.  Your life and leadership are GOD’S STORY.  Your marriage, your family, your finances-how you manage in these areas is your testimony of who God is in your life.

PRAY:
Dear God,
You are the Commander-In-Chief of my life, please help me to live like it.  Please help me to come under Your authority.  Help me to behave like You are the center of my family, marriage, and finances.  Please help me to surrender my heart fully to Your leadership.  Let my life story reflect Your story of honor, glory, and praise.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
