Deliver Us From Evil

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Amen.)

13 And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evilMatthew 6:13 (KJV)

For weeks we have been evaluating how Jesus taught us to pray.
These lines or phrases are pieces of how we should talk with God.
In this week’s message we focus on what it means to Deliver us from evil.
Deliver in the Greek means to keep us away from evil; keep us from the evil one.
There’s no doubt that evil really exists. We have recent events in TX, Buffalo, Ukraine that prove evil is real.

An evil enemy of humanity exists. The Bible calls Satan the ‘god of this world and prince of the air’.  Jesus talked about Satan because Satan is real.

This week we are going to take a closer look at what it means to be kept away from evil or the evil one. How can we identify Satan when he isn’t what we would expect? What does a battle look like in the spiritual realm? Do we have a chance against an enemy who comes to kill, steal, and destroy us?

We have power to fight and win against a powerful enemy. It starts with our relationship with our heavenly Father who already holds the victory.

Let’s Pray:
Dear God,
You hold all power on heaven and earth. You defeated the devil at the cross and You will have a final victory. Prepare us, arm us, with every weapon to defend and defeat Satan in our lives. Help us know he is real but he does not have final say in our lives. We pray this all in Jesus’ name, Amen.
