2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3 (NKJV)
Have you ever come upon a diary or love letters from your grandparents or someone who lived long ago? Have you held these precious pages written in their own handwriting, sharing the depth of their heart? What a treasure! So it is with God’s Word.
When we embrace the Old Testament with the New Testament, we have amazing treasure. We have the full story of our assurance in eternity. We read and understand God’s love letter to His children for all time. Each page shows God’s tenderness and love for His people-even in the hardest times. When people of God suffer, God’s heart is toward them-even when it is caused by their own sin and disobedience. God loves us like a parent loves their child and His Word is proof.
When you read your Bible to understand God’s heart for His people, to reunite with them through Jesus-you are beholding the greatest desire of God. When you put your faith in Jesus -trust that He died for your sin, He was raised from the dead and beat sin and death- you will have attained the full assurance, the mystery God the Father and of Christ. The Holy Spirit will work in your heart to reveal the hidden treasures and give you wisdom and understanding.
We will never know everything about God. We will never understand every way that God works. But what we do know, we can believe; and what we don’t know, we can trust Him still.
We understand and know God’s heart through His own words to His people.

Dear God,
You are a loving Father and You long to connect with me. Please give me a desire to know You more through Your whole Word, the Bible. Please give me understanding when I read. Give me quiet time each day that is set aside to spend time with Your Word. God, I know I can learn so much through Jesus’ examples in the New Testament and so much about You in the Old. Please help me to turn to Your Word for direction and deeper relationship with You. Thank You loving Father God, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
