Thy Will Be Done

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Amen.)

9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV)

Lord, what is Your will?  I ask that question almost every day as I desire to do what God wants.  I want to know the Will of God and I want it to be done in my life and on the earth.  What a glorious vision it would be to see the will of God surrounding us?!  Again, the same heavenly thoughts come to mind:  peace, love, unity, kindness, beauty, and perfection, without sin.

“THY WILL BE DONE” is all about surrendering our authority to His authority.

When I lay my plans aside and seek what honors God and brings Him glory, I am surrendering to God’s authority.  When I am cutoff in traffic and resist the urge to give the driver a piece of my mind, but instead say or do nothing-I am surrendering to God’s authority.  When God closes a door that I was really pushing hard to open-for a job, a relationship, any kind of plans I wanted-and I let go with grace trusting God has a different and better plan; then I am allowing God’s Will in my life.

Friends this is not easy.  I have been there and in the moment it feels painful.  But when I remind myself that I don’t want to live outside of God’s Will, how tough and difficult that is; I find myself consoled that God’s authority reigns in my life.  I have always found it to be true, God’s plans for me are so much bigger and better.

I am reminded in scripture of God’s promises:  “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

LET’S PRAY:
Dear God,
Your Will is so much better than mine.  Your authority directs my life for my benefit and peace.  I admit there are times when I want what I want.  I push my own plans and agenda.  Forgive me please.  I only derail or delay Your best plans and ways.  Thank You for allowing me to come back to You, for redeeming my waywardness.  Help me to surrender sooner and more often to You, help me trust You more.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
