21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)

Jesus never sinned but He became sin on that day, He did that for us. So that we can become righteous like Him. We can put our mistakes behind us because of what Jesus did for us.

22 To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV)

When we decide to trust and follow Jesus, that means there is a major life change that happens with us. That means that the sins in our life don’t have power over us. We are created new. Does it mean that we will never make a mistake again? No, but Jesus’ blood covers us. God is merciful and forgiving. Also, living through Jesus makes us really think about what is pleasing to God and living that way.
