Grow in Christ

14Then we will no longer be infants, (the maturity of the believer in the church) tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Ephesians 4:14 (NIV)

In the previous verse (verse 13) it talks about becoming mature and “attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Verse 14 begins by stating how we “will no longer be infants.”  As a Christian, the objective is for us to grow in our faith.  There’s nothing wrong with having an infancy stage (that’s where everyone begins), but we should not remain infants the rest of our lives.  So, the question becomes how do we grow?  Rather than asking that question, ask how can I become healthy?

Healthy things will grow by themselves.  As an example, if you give a plant a lot of sunshine, good soil, and water, it will naturally grow by itself.  Likewise, rather than trying to figure out how to grow as a Christian, maybe begin to ponder how you can become healthy spiritually.  Maybe you commit to reading the Bible for at least 5 minutes per day for the next 30 days.  Maybe you commit to attending church regularly.  Maybe you even commit to attending a growth group at your local church as a way of being in community with others.  Whatever you choose, focus on becoming healthy and you will grow.

What will you do this week to become healthier in your faith?
