Baptism

Life with Jesus is a journey of next steps, and one of the most important after deciding to follow Him is baptism.

Sunday, October 19th at all campuses!

What is the meaning of Water Baptism?

After you accept Christ into your life, the next step is water baptism.  The word “baptize” means to be submerged or immersed in water.  Baptism is a symbol to others that you are now a follower of Jesus.

Another example is a wedding ring, which is a visible symbol to others that you are married.  Likewise, baptism is a visible symbol to others that you have accepted Christ.

Why Get Baptized?

The bible commands us to be baptized as followers of Christ. Jesus himself was baptized.  Jesus later spoke to His disciples and instructed them to baptize others.

After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. Matthew 3:16 (NLT)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Matthew 28:19 (NLT)

Who should get Baptized?

Everyone who has accepted Christ should be baptized.  We see a pattern in the Bible where the Gospel was preached, people heard it and believed in their heart, and then they were immediately baptized.Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”  Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:38-39, 41 (NLT)
