Read The Bible

What is the Bible?
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

The Bible (also referred to as the “Word of God”) is made up of 66 books split into two sections – the Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books).  It serves as a guide explaining how to live, it reveals God’s promises to mankind, and it shows God’s unconditional love for humanity, among other things.  The Bible was penned by men but inspired by God.

Why read the Bible?
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:22-25 (NLT)

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” Matthew 7:24-25

God’s Word reveals God’s plan.  You won’t know His plan for your life or for humanity unless you read His Word.  Also, it’s important to read the Bible daily to understand God’s promises so you can stand firm when the storms of life come your way.  In addition, you should read the Bible because it has the answer for the situation you are facing now.  Lastly, the most important thing to remember about the Bible is that we must do what is says (it wasn’t written as a suggestion).  God will bless you for doing what He instructed you to do.

How do I read the bible?
