Works of Service

12to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that (the reason for it) the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all (“until” implies ongoing till the goal is met, and the goal is “all”) reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.Ephesians 4:12-13 (NIV)

The previous verse talks about how God called some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.  We continue in verse 12 with an understanding of why some were called to those areas… to prepare God’s people for works of service.  So, one of the key points in this verse is that God’s people (those who have placed their trust in Christ) should be serving others, not as a singular task, but as a way of life.

How can you practically use your gifts and talents to serve others each day?  For some, maybe you serve in your local church.  For others, it can be as simple as random acts of kindness that gives assistance to those in your surroundings.  The key is that we sometimes overthink what it means to serve.  We view it as a major task instead of behavior as a way of life.  Shift your thoughts concerning what it means to serve and the methods in which you will serve others.

Who could you serve this week?
Where will you serve them?
When will you serve them?
